Santiago Day 9

Today is Doctor Day. I am going ot the hospital. I choose the expensive Catholic one, because I guess I have a part of me that is a little snobby. Really I need a doctor who speaks English and I thought my chances were better. I went to the hospital and made an appointment for later in the day with a doctor who speaks English.

While we waited for my doctors appointment, we went to a little market and did some shopping and went to the bank because we were out of money. We also went to the bus stationand bought a ticket for tomorrow to go to Mendoza.

At the doctors, he didn´t really speak English. I spoke slow in English and he spoke slow in Spanish and we managed to get through it. He said he didn´t know what was wrong with me and refferred me to an ear nose and throat doctor. Luckily there was a doctor in the hospital who could see me that day. I went to the specialist, who spoke English and had actually been to Eugene. It was bizzarre. He quizzed me on Oregon and American history. He also didn´t know what was wrong with me. I had a prescription for some heavy duty antibiotics and an endoscopy if the antibiotics didn´t work. It was a weird day and hopefully the drugs will work. But i was seen by a general practitioner doctor and a specialist within an hour and paid $120 for both. It was the weirdest medical visit I have ever had. I liked it.
