Arequipa Day 3

Happy Leap Year! I woke up and started reading my book. Sarah needed to rest. It was obvious because she slept in until almost 10. Once she was up we had breakfast and got ready to explore the town.

We went to a monestary first, which was huge. I think it took up 6 city blocks. There were streets inside and the place was just enormous. Its amazing the living conditions people live in. Especially the onces who dedicate their life to God and the church. It really tugs at me at times.

After that we went to a museum to see the "Ice Princess", Juanita. Well Juanita, an almost fully preserved mummy was in the freezer so we saw her replacement, Sarita, who is not fully preserved. Anyway, It was a great museum, I am a little creeped out with the whole mummy thing because I don´t do well with dead things. It was very interesting and informative. At the museum I was amazed by the restoration that had taken place on certain artifacts. There were before and after pictures and I was just amazed. Science and technology can do amazing things. I´m a little weary on the tradition of human sacrifices, but I get that it is part of a completely different culture and am trying to understand it a little more.

Afterwards we did more shooping. I am on a roll because I had to buy a new bag to carry all my treasures back to Lima. After shopping we had a chocolate crepe which was delightful! Then we went back and got ready to catch our flight tomorrow afternoon.
